The Chicago Park District is improving its special event permit application process by eliminating the physical wait in line. Beginning Friday, Nov. 1, applicants can go online at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/permits-and-rentals/ and complete the application process beginning at 9 a.m.
Under the new two-step electronic process, applicants will:
1) Purchase a non-refundable $35 permit application fee that secures a space in the processing queue.
2) Complete the special event permit application online.
To prepare for the new process, applicants can visit www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/permits-and-rentals/ beginning Oct. 25 and take the following steps:
- New users should create an account as a Chicago Park District customer.
- Current Chicago Park District customers can login and add “Permit Application Fee 2014” to their wish list in preparation for check out on Nov. 1, 2013 at 9 a.m.
The new process will allow for more planning time and eliminates waiting in line. The former process did not open to applicants until early January the same year of the event.
In spring 2014, the Chicago Park District plans to unveil a streamlined process for picnic permits. These changes, together with the improved online program registration process, are some of the Chicago Park District’s recent initiatives to better serve customers.
