My education and certification:
I am a proud Veteran Officer of the U.S. Army Veteran Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves who enlisted as a high school senior in 1999. I earned a Bachelor’s of Science from South Carolina State University in 2006. Prior to joining the Chicago Park District, I worked at industry-leading corporate gyms such as L.A. Fitness.
During my time in the military, while serving as the Physical Readiness Training OIC of his Army Reserves unit, I was responsible for the physical fitness readiness of hundreds of soldiers within the battalion. I also supervised and instructed these soldiers through the Army's transition from its former Physical Training program to its present PRT program.
My specialty in fitness or nutrition and areas of expertise:
I am a group fitness instructor who specializes in Fitness Boot Camp. In early 2013, Park District Fitness Instructor Jake Kolbus (Veteran of U.S. Marine Corps and certified personal trainer) and myself designed and implemented the official exercise curriculum for the Chicago Park District’s Troops for Fitness Boot Camp program.
