Registration Now Open for Sporty Seniors to Compete Sept. 19-28 in the 2011 Senior Games

The Chicago Park District invites active seniors to participate in the Senior Games Sept. 19-28 at various citywide parks.
“The Senior Games are one of the many sporting events that the Chicago Park District offers to keep residents of all ages and abilities active,” said interim Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Mike Kelly.
Festivities kick off Monday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 63rd St. Beach House, 6300 S. Lake Shore Dr. Athletes will partake in the ceremonial lighting of the cauldron and a fun walk.
The sporting competitions take place at various Chicago Park District sites and include track and field, horseshoes, shuffleboard, basketball, bowling, and much more.
The games close Wednesday, Sept. 28 with an outing to U.S. Cellular Field for a Chicago White Sox game.
Seniors who are residents of the City of Chicago, are at least 55 years old by Sept. 19, 2011, are in good physical health and are actively training in their events are encouraged to register. Interested seniors should obtain a registration form through the Chicago Park District and turn in the completed form with the $25 entry fee. Registration must be received by Friday, Sept. 9. There will be no on-site registration for events on competition days.
