Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski at Northerly Island
This winter season enjoy Northerly Island, 1400 S. Lynn White Dr., by snowshoeing and/or cross country skiing during select dates Saturdays and Sundays beginning December 3, 2011 through February 26, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There must be at least three inches of snow.
Families can circle the 91- acre peninsula on their snowshoes or cross country skis. While circling the island look for winter birds, winter native animals, or enjoy the incredible view of Chicago’s skyline! Participants can also enjoy a good old fashioned snowball fight, build a snowman or two and take a break from the cold weather by warming up inside the field house.
During the following dates Northerly Island will have snowshoeing and cross country skiing available:
December 3, 17, 18
January 7, 8, 14, 15, 22, 28, 29
February 4, 5, 11, 12, 19, 25, 26
Dates are subject to change.
Equipment is available to check out for $5 for two hours of skiing and trekking at the Northerly Island field house. Snowshoes and cross country skis are checked out on a first come, first served basis. Please remember to bring a valid ID. If you have your own cross country skis or snowshoes, it is free to ski and trek around the island!
