Sonic Playgrounds Turn Participants Into Musicians as They "play" Playgrounds as Instruments.
8/12/2011
The Chicago Park District gives youth and families the chance to release their inner artist as they become musicians and “play” the playground at the admission-free Sonic Playgrounds program running select dates from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 16 – Sept. 1 at the following parks:
•Tuesday, Aug. 16, Rainbow Beach and Park, 3111 E. 77th St.
•Wednesday, Aug. 17, Clarendon Park Community Center, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave.
•Thursday, Aug. 18, Park No. 551 (Fulton River Park), 601 W. Kinzie St.
•Tuesday, Aug. 23, Mt. Greenwood Park, 3724 W. 111th St.
•Thursday, Aug. 25, Mary Bartelme Park, 115 S. Sangamon St.
•Tuesday, Aug. 30, Lindblom Park, 6054 S. Damen Ave.
•Wednesday, Aug. 31, Park No. 554 (Albany/Whipple), 1805 N. Albany

These do-it-yourself performances feature contact microphones that amplify the playground equipment and sound beam sensors that translate movement into sound. Participants are invited to activate the space, creating sounds with the available equipment as they play on the playground.
Participants will also have the chance to create beats and music on the Inferno Mobile Recording Studio. This mobile recording studio offers the opportunity to write and record original stories, poetry, songs, raps and more. The Inferno Mobile Recording Studio is sponsored by Parkways Foundation, the non-profit partner of the Chicago Park District.
