The varsity league’s season culminated in a championship game at Soldier Field between the Washington Park Redskins and the Ogden Park Vikings on Friday, October 21. The 68th edition of the "Superbowl" of the Junior Bears Football Program Competition is a Park District tradition. This year, the Vikings took home the Mum Bowl trophy.

The Mum Bowl includes each football player presenting a family member with a Mum corsage at midfield, prior to kick off. During half-time, one Junior Bear will receive the Walter Payton Award that honors a player who not only exercises good sportsmanship, but is also an asset to his community. The Walter Payton award will be presented by Connie Payton.
Bears Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Bears, has provided long-standing support to the Chicago Park District by helping to fund the Junior Bear, Inner City Flag Football and Nerf Football programs.
The Chicago Park District’s intramural Junior Bear program gives 941 Chicago area children ages 8-13 the opportunity to play at 20 Park District sites. Entrance and Parking at Soldier Field for the Mum Bowl is free.
