Learn about winter animals including Siberian huskies at Polar Adventure Days!
Chicago Park District

The Chicago Park District today announced the dates for this winter’s free Polar Adventure Days at Northerly Island Park. Beginning December 16, 2017 and continuing January 20 and February 24, 2018, Chicagoans and tourists are invited to explore Northerly Island, located at 1521 S. Linn White Dr., and engage in exciting winter activities, come face-to-face with live animals and create nature inspired crafts.

In its thirteenth year, the annual winter series will treat visitors to a number of fun-filled activities that are both educational and fun for all ages. Participants will tour Northerly Island’s Natural Area, either on foot or in snowshoes depending on weather, and learn about winter animals including Siberian huskies, wolves and birds of prey. Park patrons can also work together to create a nature inspired winter craft, while sipping on a cup of hot cocoa.

“Polar Adventure Days is one of the Park District’s most unique events,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly. “To be able to walk around in snowshoes and interact with wolves is not an experience that many Chicagoans get living in the city.”

All Polar Adventure Days take place from 12 p.m. -4 p.m. The first 500 visitors will be treated to hot cocoa. By participating in Polar Adventure Days visitors can also receive Park Points by checking in at the event via the My Chi Parks mobile app. Park Points is a free, digital loyalty program where members engage with the Chicago Park District and our partners by attending events, participating in personality quizzes, polls, trivia games, entering sweepstakes contests and more.
