Winter programming starts the week of January 6, and includes swimming, gymnastics, and more

CHICAGO— It’s the best time of the year! The Chicago Park District announces registration dates for its 2025 winter programming. Starting today, Monday, December 2, patrons can view the full list of winter programs on the Park District website. Online registration begins on December 9 and December 10, and depends on the location of the park, while in-person registration will begin on December 14. Most programming runs from January 6 through March 16, 2025.

“Winter is one of the most magical times in Chicago. We have a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities and programs at the Park District for patrons of all ages to continue their wellness journeys,” said General Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareño. “Winter in the parks is especially vital to our overall health.”

Registration Schedule:

  • At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, online registration opens for in-person programs at parks located West of California Ave. and for all virtual programs.
  • At 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, online registration opens for parks located East of California Ave.
  • At 12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, online registration opens for gymnastic centers.
  • In-person registration for most parks begins on Saturday, December 14 or Monday, December 16.

Program Highlights:

Winter programming highlights include:

  • A 10-session introductory Learn to Swim class for free with coupon code ‘FIRSTFREE’,
  • The Lifeguard Explorers Training program where Chicago residents aged 15-22 will receive $400 upon program completion to learn the swim skills necessary to pass the Lifeguard Swim Test,
  • Gymnastics sessions at different parks for beginners to advanced gymnasts, and;
  • For fans of pickleball, the sport is still available for both instruction and open court times at indoor locations.

Aquatics Programs

Whether you are 16 months old or 90 years young, there is a Chicago Park District aquatics program for you. Classes include Parent and Tot Swim, Tiny Tot Swim, Youth, Teen and Adult Learn to Swim, Swim Team, Water Polo, Aquatic Exercise and more.

Swimming is an important life skill.  Learn how to swim at the Chicago Park District.  Patrons ages 6-17 can take a 10-session introductory swim class for FREE with the coupon code ‘FIRSTFREE.’

Learn the Skills Needed to be a Lifeguard

In the Lifeguard Explorers Training Program, Chicago Park District will teach the required skills and provide supervised practice time needed to successfully pass the Lifeguard Skills Test. Passing the Lifeguard Skill test is a requirement to become a Chicago Park District Lifeguard. Open to Chicago residents aged 15-22. Participants will receive $400 upon completion of the program. The next Swim Test is scheduled for Saturday, December 21 at 9 a.m. at Whitney Young High School, 211 S. Laflin St.

Park Kids After-school Program

Park Kids is an excellent way for kids 6-12 to stay active after school through a variety of brain play, nature, fitness, sports, and art activities, along with homework time. Financial assistance is available and fees are reduced for CHA residents. 

Gymnastics

The Chicago Park District’s gymnastic centers offer quality instruction for beginners to advanced competitors year-round, with excellent training facilities and instructors.

Early Childhood (18 months - 5 yrs. old)

From Arts & ABCs, Ballet and Bitty Basketball, to Dino Diggers, Kiddie College, and Little Artists you will find something special for your little one. For the younger ones, Parent/Guardian and Tot activities are available at many parks.

Youth (6-12 yrs. old) 

Looking to keep your kids active this season, sign them up for a park program!  The Chicago Park District strives to connect youth with fun, creative, and engaging programs in a safe environment. Classes include boxing, basketball, dance, woodcraft, cheerleading, and a variety of fitness options.

Winter Break Camps are available at 50+ parks across the city over the holiday school break. Keep your kids active & engaged over the long break. Most parks are at least six hours with most running the full day. Dates vary but many camps run from December 23, 2024 through January 3, 2025, closing on December 25 and Jan. 1.

Teens

A variety of programs are offered this season for teens, from basketball and cultural offerings to fitness classes and clubs.  Register for one (or more) today!

Adults/Seniors 

A variety of classes are offered, from cultural activities to fitness and wellness, there is something for all interest types.  If you're a fan of the fast-growing sport Pickleball, it's available at parks across the city, both instruction and open court times are available. 

Special Recreation

Special Recreation programs are offered for individuals with disabilities. Participants will enjoy a variety of activities, from creating crafts, cooking, and fitness to visiting with friends in our social clubs.
