Halloween in the Parks Ramps Up Just in Time for the Spookiest Day of the Year

The Chicago Park District is hosting Fall and Halloween events all season long in park locations across the city. Events are offered for youth participants, teens, and all ages. Halloween in the Parks is presented by Mars. Mars will provide candy to visitors at Halloween in the Parks events.

From artistic, athletic, and spooky there is an offering for everyone this Halloween in the Parks. Pumpkin patches, parades, costume contests, haunted houses, truck or treat events, and craft workshops, offer a wide variety of options, many for free and others at little to no cost for park patrons. These events take place in parks on every side of the city, and continue all the way to Halloween on October 31st. All outdoor events are weather dependent. Some activities may be relocated indoors. October 17, 2025

Halloween Movie

This Friday’s movie selection is E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, where a troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world, hiding the creature from his parents and evading authorities along the way to keep his new friend safe. In addition to the movie, visitors will enjoy roasting marshmallows over a bonfire.

A wristband purchase gives you access to all activities, with the exception of the pumpkin patch. Don't miss Zoo to You from 10am-2pm, an interactive, fun, and exciting mobile zoo with goats, sheep, a little cow, bunny, and more. Music provided by Yves Francois Rocambu Jazz from 12pm-1:30pm!

 

Día de Los Muertos Workshops & Ofrenda Walk

The South Chicago Día de Los Muertos Workshops and Ofrenda Walk is a series of art-making open to all ages. Every Saturday in October, families will have the opportunity to create objects related to Dia de Los Muertos. There will be a talk on the meaning and importance of this tradition.

 

Kooky Spooky Candy Trail

This unique workshop offered by Artist William Estrada offers an immersive experience into the rich traditions surrounding Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) celebrations, with a particular focus on the iconic sugar skull. Halloween Trunk or Treat is a free event where the community, kids specifically, will be able to Trick or Treat on the 2900 block of Kenosha Ave. between the allotted hours.

Adults that wish to actively participate by bringing a vehicle to decorate and pass out candy will need to register and communicate with the park supervisor at Ken-Well Park.

 

Día de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead is a community celebration honoring and celebrating the lives of loved ones that have passed away. Featuring workshops with artist Maestro William and the Mobile Street Art Cart and the Chicago Public Libraries. Performances from the Marquette Park Band Program, Mariachi Tradicional Juvenil, and Xochitl-Quetzal Aztec Dance.

During this free Halloween event, we will safely distribute candy to youth and families in the community. Park partners, volunteers, and PAC members will distribute candy from their cars as trick or treaters come by for Halloween goodies.

 

Haunted House

Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave., 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Age range: Youth

Admission: Free

Children can come dressed in their costumes to have a fun with a pumpkin patch, video games, face painting, arts & crafts, and more. Everyone will have a chance to enter the haunted house and enjoy the different scary scenes.

Halloween Costume Parade and Open House

Join us at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center to show off your costumes in our Halloween Parade around the track.

 

Trunk or Treat

Children can come dressed in their costumes to collect candy from cars decorated for Halloween at our 6th annual Trunk or Treat. Activities include arts & crafts, games and more!

 

¡Noche de Fantasmas!

Villapalooza presents “¡Noche de Fantasmas!" This is a Halloween mini concert in collaboration with the Chicago Park District. Enjoy an evening of punk, rock, goth, emo, and metal at Douglass Park Cultural and Community Center Auditorium and Ballroom.

 

Fright Night

Kennicott Park, 4434 S. Lake Park Ave., 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
