Thanks to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Summer Safety Surplus, the Chicago Park District launches Rollin’ Recreation, a new program that offers various activities admission free at citywide parks July 5 – August 31.

"This summer, families throughout Chicago will have plenty of choices at their local park to keep active and to engage with others in their community," said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly.

Thursday – Saturday during those 9 weeks, Chicago Park District activity vans will roll into select parks in the following neighborhoods: Auburn Gresham/South Chicago; Austin; Englewood; Humboldt Park/West Town; Lawndale; Near West/Pilsen; New City; Rogers Park; and Roseland.

The vans will wheel out tools to provide an afternoon of activities such as gymnastics, fitness, dance, theater, arts and crafts, and sports. The Inferno Mobile Recording Studio, a portable studio where participants can make their own music, will also be available on select dates.

Rollin’ Recreation activities are geared toward the entire family. No advance registration is required.
