Open to anglers of all experiences ages 8 and older
CHICAGO, IL— The Chicago Park District offers free Family Fishing instructional sessions at five park sites along lagoons, and the lakefront. Complimentary equipment will be provided and staff will be present to teach patrons 8 and older about fishing techniques and local ecosystems! Participating children must be accompanied by parents.
The next session takes place Friday, August 14, 2026 at Jackson Park along the Columbia Basin, near the Museum of Science and Industry. The Family Fishing initiative will conclude for the season on August 29, 2026. View the full schedule here.
“Family Fishing instruction is yet another way patrons can connect with Chicago’s rich ecosystem this summer, without the cumbersome logistics of acquiring fishing equipment and scheduling trips elsewhere,” said Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO. “We’re meeting families where they are while also teaching fishing, a pastime that transcends generations.”
The equipment at each event is limited, and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Parents must accompany children. This is a drop-in activity; registration is not required.
Family Fishing Schedule:
- August 14, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Jackson Park, along the Columbia Basin, located along S. Cornell Drive.
- August 15, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Montrose Harbor Fishing Pier located in Montrose Harbor just west of the boat launch.
- August 21, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Gompers Park, located at 4222 W. Foster Ave.
- August 22, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Marquette Park, located at 6743 S. Kedzie Ave.
- August 28, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Humboldt Park Boathouse, located south of the fieldhouse which is located at 1440 N. Humboldt Blvd.
- August 29, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Jackson Park, along the Columbia Basin, located along S. Cornell Drive.
