Free Speed Skating Competition for Children and Adults Hosted at Various Ice Rinks

The Chicago Park District is excited to host the annual, local and free speed skating competition, Silver Skates. Children and adults, ages 6 to 17 years old, will have the opportunity to participate in six events that will take place at neighborhood ice rinks from January 10 to 19, 2023.

The dates of the meets and locations are listed below:

•    1/12/2023 | Mt. Greenwood Park, 3721 W. 111th St. *

•    1/17/2023 | McFetridge Sports Center, 3843 N. California Ave.

•    1/18/2023 | Warren Park, 6601 N. Western Ave. *

•    1/19/2023 | Wentworth Park, 5625 S. Mobile Ave.

•    Citywide Championship: 1/21/2023 | McFetridge Sports Center, 3843 N. California Ave.

Online registration is now open for all meets and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 20 participants from each age group and gender. Advance registration online is encouraged. Onsite registration is available the day of the meet if spots remain, beginning at 5:15 p.m. All participants under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or guardian register them to be eligible to participate.

Check-in begins on-site at 5:15 p.m. for each event and races begin at 5:45 p.m. The youth races will take place first, followed by the adult races. Participants must wear gloves, long sleeves, and a bicycle or hockey helmet to participate. These will not be provided. Figure skates, hockey skates, or speed skates must be worn at all times. Skates will be available to rent free of charge at each event.  

A citywide competition will take place at McFetridge Sports Center on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Youth skaters that qualify from the neighborhood races will be invited to compete at the citywide competition. Check-in begins at 9:15 a.m. and races begin at 10 a.m. Adults are invited to race at the citywide competition without having to qualify from one of the neighborhood races.
