CHICAGO, IL – Enjoy the sweet sounds of summer with the Chicago Park District! Summer registration will open on Monday, April 20 at 9 a.m. for parks West of California Avenue and continue on Tuesday, April 21 at 9 a.m. for parks East of California Avenue. In-person registration varies by park, and begins on Saturday, April 25.

This year, Summer Day Camp will run from Monday, June 22 until Friday, July 31, 2026 with most camps running for six hours a day, either 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. or 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Most other summer programs run from June 15 – August 9, 2026.

“Summer is a time for growth, discovery and fun,” said Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO. “We’re excited to welcome patrons back into the park for another season and to offer programs that bring individuals together to learn new skills and create lasting memories.”

In 2026, we are offering summer programs for over 38,000 participants, featuring a selection of more than 1,000 activities, including Summer Day Camp. Camps vary from roughly $1.38 per hour or $8.31 per day, and the average cost of our 6-week camps is $241, a fraction of the cost of typical private summer camps.

Registration is a bit different this year. Earlier this month, the Park District launched the first phase of an initiative to improve the Summer Day Camp program registration process. A new interactive map and icons now highlight parks in high demand and real-time camp openings, along with a revamped preparation checklist on the website. Patrons can also view one of two webinar recordings hosted by the Park District in preparation for registration day, available here.

Early Bird and Extended Camp options offer working families additional opportunities for children that need to come to the park early and/or leave late.

In addition to Summer Day Camp, patrons have an exciting mix of program offerings to sign up for this year. This year’s programming lineup features walking clubs, parent and tot gymnastics, senior swim classes and more. From pickleball to quilting to archery, there is something for everyone.

The Chicago Park District’s programs are among the most affordable summer activity options available for families, and offers Financial Assistance for those who cannot afford to pay the full price. No child will be turned away for inability to pay. All camps range in cost, and some are offered for free. For more information about our financial aid, please click here.

Summer Food Program

The Chicago Park District is a sponsor of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Children enrolled in park programming during the summer can receive up to one free meal and snack (varies depending on park) per day. These meals are reviewed by a registered dietitian and are specially crafted to meet the nutritional needs and preferences of growing kids. See the menus and allergen information below. For questions on the menus please speak to the Day Camp Coordinator/Director at the park.

Financial Assistance Fund & CHA Voucher

The Chicago Park District has limited funds available to provide financial assistance for families who wish to enroll in the summer day camp program but are unable to afford the full price. If approved, financial assistance will cover half of the program cost.  Customers are responsible for paying the other half. Reduced fees are available for CHA residents enrolled in summer day camp. Starting Fall 2020, CHA residents no longer need the paper “voucher” to take advantage of Park District programs. By obtaining a CHA Membership, CHA residents may register for eligible programs and pay a reduced fee. Memberships must be obtained in-person at any park and the discount is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Full details available here.
