The Chicago Park District in collaboration with the John Walt Foundation announces the launch of Teens in the Park Fest (T.I.P. Fest) auditions. The annual teen and youth talent showcase will return for its sixth year on Saturday, October 2 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Union Park, located at 501 W. Randolph St. The T.I.P Fest stage provides showcasing opportunities for youth artists, including singers, dancers, poets, spoken word artists and musicians.
“The Chicago Park District strives to provide various types of programs and events for Chicago teens,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly. “This year’s festival will continue its tradition of providing young Chicago artists the opportunity and outlet to perform and showcase their talent in front of their peers.”
Chicago residents between the ages of 14 to 24 years old will have two opportunities to display their talents at the park auditions that will determine who will advance to perform at this year’s T.I.P. Fest. A panel of judges with diverse musical will select the performers. The auditions are open to the public to attend and support the artists.
For each audition, performers must register in advance at https://bit.ly/TIPonTOURAuditions2021. Upon registering, participants will receive a confirmation with instructions and an audition time. Each performer has a three-minute time limit for their audition.
The first audition, TIP on Tour and CYPHER, will be held on Saturday, July 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Amundsen Park, 6200 W. Bloomingdale Ave. The CYPHER hosted by musical artists Defcee and Add-2 will include six of the city's sharpest talents, including Semiratruth, F.A.B.L.E, Audiohvisual, D’zaire, Dai, and VII, rhyming over an original production from Pivot Gang's in-house production wizard, Dae Dae.
The second and final audition, TIP on Tour Auditions and Rap Battle, will be held on Saturday, August 21 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Midway Plaisance, 1130 Midway Plaisance. This four-person emcee battle tournament will feature rappers with contemporary battle styles.
The top ten artists, five chosen from each audition, will move on to perform at T.I.P. Fest on Saturday, October 2 at Union Park. Three final winners will be chosen and will receive the following prizes: 1st place $500, 2nd place $250, and 3rd place $150.
