Description

Join the Marquette Park Backbeat Project for a free concert! Well before its modern takeover of the world market, hip hop began as a decidedly experimental genre pioneered by teenage DJ/producers like Grandmaster Flash. Most of these early contributions show a heavy indebtedness to musicians like James Brown and Gil Scott-Heron--and thus, are perfectly suited to live performance. In "Classic Instrumentals", watch Marquette Park's youngest musicians explore the works of Grandmaster Flash, Pete Rock, and beyond. Free and open to the public inside the historic Marquette Park Auditorium, with seating provided.
This show will be followed by the Marquette Park Piano Trio performing a set of music in a show called "The Piano Trio Blues".

Musicians:
--Yari Rodriguez: trumpet
--Matt Riggen: tenor saxophone
--Mateo Herrera: trombone
--Victoria Loarca: keyboards
--Ximena Dominguez-Silva: electric bass
--Andrea Dominguez-Silva: drumset
