Chamber Ensemble: Open Letter to Duke at Marquette
Wednesday, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Description
Join the Marquette Park Chamber Ensemble for a free concert! Duke Ellington was not only one of the great composer Charles Mingus' main influences, but also an infrequent collaborator. Tonight, in "Open Letter to Duke", the Marquette Park Chamber Ensemble will explore the connection between the two--from classic Ellingtonia like "Mood Indigo", to pieces like "Wig Wise" that feature both of their influence, to pieces like "So Long Eric" which push forward Ellington's innovations as only Mingus could do. This set will be preceded by the Marquette Park Quintet performing Sonny Sharrock's landmark album "Ask the Ages" in its entirety.
Musicians:--Matt Riggen: trumpet--Alexis Aroche: alto saxophone--Markail Johnson: tenor saxophone--Citlalic Baeza: bass clarinet--Grek Vega: electric guitar--Yadiana Perez: piano--Rey Dyckman: electric bass--Jalen Robinson: drumset
