Join us for this virtual class! Attract birds to your garden with a variety of seeds for them to eat, especially in the winter months. In this lecture, we will go over planting, growing, and harvesting techniques for plants typically found in packaged seed mixes, including black oil sunflower, white millet, nyjer, cracked corn, and peanuts. While stocking bird feeders with seeds helpful for migrating and winter resident birds, native plants provide natural fall and winter forage. We will show you how to select native plants for quality forage and show you how to maintain them so look beautiful in your garden year-round. Finally, we will discuss other things you can do to create a welcoming habitat, including encouraging insects to overwinter to provide additional nutrition for birds.
