Interested in getting out on the water, but not sure how to start? This class will help build skills and knowledge to adventure on the river on your own safely. We'll start on land talking through equipment, goals and safety before hitting the water to practice strokes and maneuvers. This class is significantly smaller than most to allow for more one-on-one feedback to help you get going. Feel free to bring your own canoe if you'd like, or borrow one of ours. Our staff are trained American Canoe Association instructors and environmental educators, and will make this an evening to remember. Ages 12+ welcome, must be 18 or older to participate without an adult. Registration fee covers rental of all equipment plus instruction. Based at the River Park Boathouse, the Chicago Park District's RiverLab program is a series of educational events and activities dedicated to reconnecting residents of Chicago with their river. All programs will include themes on ecology and history of the river, and are open to all residents.
