South Side Sisters, Sounds, and Stories at Kennicott

South Side Sisters, Sounds, and Stories: A Celebration of Black Women Composers Across Africa, Chicago, and the Caribbean returns to Kennicott Park as part of A Night Out in the Parks, presented by Àkójọpọ̀. This year’s program builds on last year’s celebration, honoring the musical legacies of Black women composers while expanding the focus to voices across the African diaspora. Through live music and storytelling, the event highlights cultural connections between Africa, Chicago’s South Side, and the Caribbean. Southside Sisters continues to uplift the stories, sounds, and impact of Black women in music, offering an engaging community experience rooted in history, culture, and performance.
