A Long Walk Home's Visibility Project is a public art program organized by black girls in the city of Chicago. ALWH partners with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for this community event to use art to empower, elevate, and recognize the voices and artistic visions of African American girls in Chicago. This dynamic event features a healing tree project, live performances, and photography exhibition and collectively organized art therapy workshops created and led by black girls and young women. This event will recognize the important contributions black girls make to their communities and our country and respond to their experiences with institutionalized violence and their ongoing invisibility in conversations, institutions, and movements for gender and racial equality in the United States. A special tribute to Rekia Boyd will be made at Douglas Park.
