The South Side Chicago Youth Orchestra is one of the nation's few programs that focuses on refining the performance skills of young people of diverse backgrounds who are play orchestral instruments. The orchestra began in 2019 and continues to provide programs even during the pandemic. SSCYO has presented a six-week workshop this summer - even in the midst of the pandemic, and this concert is the culmination of that workshop. The concert will feature works by Joseph Bologne, Edvard Grieg, Florence Price and Dimitri Shostakovich with solos by Violinist Michael Sommerville and Cellist Malik Johnson. It is a free community concert, and you are invited - indeed, encouraged - to attend to support the young people of our community. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, as this event takes place outdoors. In accordance with Be Safe Chicago Guidelines for Parks and Recreation Activities, participants in this activity will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times while participating. Patrons who are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to stay home and join us for an event when symptoms subside.
