Description

In 2008, the Chicago Park District worked with the Chicago Public Art Group to create an exciting new playground in Commercial Club Park. Through the auspices of the Commercial Club Park Advisory Club, community members were an integral part of the design process and also helped raise money to fund the playground. The centerpiece is an enormous concrete snake.

Artists Henri Marquet, John Pittman Webber and Phil Schuster created the climbable sculpture. Neighborhood children enjoy playing on the colorful snake and surrounding playground equipment. WTTW's Chicago Tonight highlighted Commercial Club Park's snake in 2010 episode about where you can "find the most unique sculptures, mosaics, and even musical instruments" in Chicago.
