Description
Leone Beach Park Natural Area contains about two acres of beach, dune, and oak savanna savanna habitats. Mulch and sand paths run through the interior of this natural area. Butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa), wild lupine (Lupinus perennis), lance-leaved coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata), and marram grass (Ammophila breviligulata) are a few of the many native plants that can be found at Leone.
This natural area benefits greatly from the dedication and hard work of community volunteers who collect and scatter native seed, plant native species, pick up trash, monitor vegetation and birds, and remove invasive species. Learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting our Community Stewardship Program page.
Help keep wildlife wild, safe, and healthy by following posted signage and Natural Areas Rules and Regulations. For questions regarding Chicago Park District Natural Areas, email nature@chicagoparkdistrict.com.
