Description

Park No. 600 Natural Area, sometimes known as "Deadstick Pond", contains 65 acres of marsh and riparian habitat along the Calumet River.

History

The Chicago Park District identified a 65-acre site for the expansion of the District’s natural areas in the Calumet Area at 12201 S. Stony Avenue in the South Deering Community Area. The site has access to the to the Little Calumet River on its southern border. The Park District entered into a lease agreement with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago in 2021 for the use of land to create a park.
