Description

Stone Talk, an abstract column-like scupture made of granite and stainless steel symbolizes "unity, harmony, and growth." The surface of the 16-and-a-half foot sculpture displays a contrasting pattern of reflective disks set against dark recesses. Yu Jiyoung (b. 1956), a Shanghai artist who began receiving attention in the 1980s for abstract experimentation, sculpted this artwork. It was first exhibited in the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Xu Zezhou, Vice-Mayor of Shanghai dedicated the sculpture in Ping Tom Park in June of 2015. The monument celebrates the thirty year relationship between Chicago and Shanghai as Sister Cities.
