As pools remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Chicago Park District Aquatics team is offering dry-land programs that take place both in-person and online. The following Team Sports program is available now.

TEAM Sports – Dryland TEAM Sports covers Swim Team, Water Polo, and Junior Lifeguards.  This program will focus on dry-land fitness and skills work for those activities.  Participants must have instructor approval in order to enroll in this program

Online programs are offered via MSTeams. In-person program participants must follow all COVID-related health and safety guidelines, including use of face masks and social distancing.  Additionally, because of social distancing requirements and limited indoor space, these programs will be conducted outside.

Junior Lifeguards

Junior Lifeguards

Age: 8 - 15

An aquatics sports camp that focuses on teaching participants the skills necessary to become a future lifeguard. Participants learn to row a boat, paddle a rescue board and various rescue techniques at select beach locations throughout the city.  Offered in the summer only.

Note: A swim skills test is required of all participants.

Junior Lifeguards Teen Leader

Junior Lifeguards Teen Leader

Age: 14 - 15

This one week activity is held prior to the start of the Junior Lifeguard aquatic sports camp. Eligible participants are taught proper use and care of equipment, first aid, rescue breathing, basic water safety, water games and activities, and team building techniques.

Note: A swim skills test is required of all participants.

Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training

Age: 15 and up

Do you have what it takes to be a lifeguard? Particiapants must be able to swim 500 yards. Participants learn the techniques necessary to become a Chicago Park District lifeguard.

Note: This class is required for employment as a Chicago Park District lifeguard. Participants are required to purchase a pocket mask and American Red Cross training materials, which are included in the cost of the class. A diving mask and fins are also required.

Swim Club

Swim Club

Age: 6 and up

This specialized club is dedicated to advancing the skills and techniques of athletes interested in improving their swimming abilities. Participants must be proficient swimmers in all four competitive strokes. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete on local, regional and national events.

Note: Coach's permission required for all new participants.

Water Polo Club

Water Polo Club

Age: 6 and up

This specialized club is dedicated to advancing the skills and level of play of athletes interested in improving in the sport of water polo. Participants must be able to tread water and be a confidant swimmer. Athletes will have the ability to compete in local, regional and national events.

TEAM Sports

Age: 6 and up

TEAM Sports includes Swim Team, Water Polo and Junior Lifeguarding. Participants will learn or improve their four competitive strokes, learn skills and game techniques for water polo, and how to use rescue equipment and perform rescue techniques. There are competitions offered for every ability and age level.

Discover SCUBA (beginner)

Discover SCUBA (beginner)

Age: 18 and up

Non-Certification course introducing diving principles and one dive at a pool facility.

Note: Participants must provide their own equipment. Material fees will be included in cost of the class.

SCUBA (intermediate)

Age: 18 and up

Open Water SCUBA Diver certification class. Classroom work, confined water dives at a pool facility and two days of open water diving are included.
