Description

The RiverLab at River Park Boathouse, located adjacent to the Chicago River, is dedicated to expanding the community's connection with this unique waterway. Programming offered at this location includes canoeing, fishing, and hands-on river learning activities.

The Park District’s Canoe Program runs guided experiences along the North Branch of the River most Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings during the summer and early fall. Exploring the city by canoe offers an experience unlike any other within the city. Open to people of all ages and abilities, our programs are both educational and transformative, while remaining inexpensive.

The RiverLab nature display includes exhibits on local wildlife, a stream table, and multiple fish tanks to explore. You can also join us for Free Family Fishing every Saturday afternoon in summer and early fall.

Come meet us on the river! View All RiverLab events.

For questions about the RiverLab and upcoming public programming, please email RiverLab@chicagoparkdistrict.com.

An accessible boat launch for human-powered craft is available for public use at no charge. When launching from River Park, please park on the street and carry your paddle craft to the launch. Vehicles may not use the bike path for loading or unloading. For more information on paddling the Chicago River, check out the excellent paddling guide created by our partner, Openlands.
