Description

Our Park No. 540 Community Garden is an ornamental and edible garden for residents in our greater South Loop area and its adjacent neighborhoods (such as South Loop, Near South Side, Bronzeville, Bridgeport, and Chinatown). It is located in the southern part of the Park No. 540 at 2401 S. Federal Street. Our goal is to provide a place to garden in our neighborhood, and to have a place of beauty for others to enjoy. We want to build a sense of community, providing a space that is inclusive, and share produce with community organizations. We operate a total of 28 raised beds, where ornamental as well as eatable plants can be grown by the gardeners. The raised beds are primarily maintained by individual households from the surrounding neighborhoods, and our community outreach project provides 2 raised beds for gardeners from the Quinn Chapel of the A.M.E. Church. We maintain a waiting list. Non-active garden group members are encouraged to get involved as garden volunteers. For more information, to receive updates about our garden, or to sign up for the waiting list send an email to park540garden@gmail.com, or follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Park-No-540-Community-Garden-138524426704198/
