Free, timed 5K and 1-mile community runs commence the outdoor running season in the parks
On your marks, get set, ‘Go Run! The Chicago Park District is proud to partner with the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) to bring 32 free, timed community runs to 11 parks citywide. Each course is marked for 1 mile and 5k races.
‘Go Runs will take place at Humboldt, 63rd Street Beach, Horner, Columbus, Marquette, Big Marsh, Garfield, Washington and Calumet Parks. One race takes place per week.
“Go Runs are about generating healthy habits alongside your neighbors” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareño. “With many ‘Go Run locations throughout the city, residents are encouraged to explore other communities while achieving their wellness goals.”
Event Structure
The ’Go Run series begins at 9:00 a.m. each Saturday. Chicagoans of all ages and abilities are welcome to walk, jog, run, or utilize mobility enhancing equipment like wheelchairs or strollers to navigate each race.
Each participant is given a bib which electronically monitors their progress; one bib can be used for each of the ‘Go Runs, so runners can track their progress throughout the year.
Registration Information
Participants must register for each date they plan to attend. For each date:
- Registration Opens: Friday @ 3:00 p.m. the week prior to each ‘Go Run.
- Registration Closes: Friday @ 2:00 p.m. the day prior to each ‘Go Run.
