Description
Donated by Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Gelbin in 1992, this drinking fountain by sculptor George Suyeoka features two elephant figures—an adult female and an infant. The elephants look as if they are drinking from the basin of the bronze fountain.
Suyeoka, who was born and raised in Hawaii, graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago 1953. He works as a commercial and fine artist, and is also the author of many children’s books and books of Japanese folk tales. This bronze drinking fountain is one of three created by Suyeoka that are located in the Lincoln Park Zoo.
