The current rink hours are listed below. Hours vary on holidays and over the holiday break, see those hours below. Open Skate times are broken into multiple shorter skate sessions. Schedules are subject to change.

Programs


Pre-registration is required for all programs including Open Skate.

  • Open Skate
    Open to all ages. Pre-registration is required. Open Skate schedules and blocks are subject to change.
    Admission: Free
    Skate rental: $7 for all ages
  • Senior Skate - NEW!
    For ages 50+. Pre-registration is required. Open Skate schedules and blocks are subject to change.
    Admission: Free
    Skate rental: $7
  • Stick & Puck and Pond Hockey

    This combined program offers 45-minutes of Stick & Puck followed by 45-minutes of Pond Hockey for one price.  All players will be required to wear a helmet (those under 18-years of age must wear a HECC approved helmet with a full-face mask), shin pads, cup and hockey gloves.  Skaters must bring their own equipment, including hockey stick. Youth skaters may be on the ice with supervision.
    Admission (includes skate rental): $8 per person, $10 for adult & child
    Pre-registration is required.

    • Stick & Puck:  Offers open access to the ice specifically for practicing stickhandling, skating and shooting skills. No scrimmage games or slap shots allowed. 

    • Pond Hockey Practice:  Practice non-contact battling up to 5-on-5 skaters. No slap shots or body checking allowed. 

  • Rat Hockey
    Rat hockey is a pick-up game available for players 18-years-old and older.  All players will be required to wear a helmet, shin pads, cup and hockey gloves. Equipment is not provided. Slap shots are allowed. Body checking is not allowed.  A minimum of eight participants are required for rat hockey play. If eight participants are not registered the program will be canceled.
    Admission (includes skate rental): $10

  • Youth Learn to Skate, run by Morgan Park Sports Center
    Saturdays, from 12:45 – 1:45 pm
    Three-week program for 3-12 year-olds, offered on Saturdays: December 2nd, 9th and 16th. This activity follows the Snowplow Sam track of the U.S. Figure Skating Learn to Skate USA program. The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the pre-school-aged skater develop preliminary coordination and strength and maneuver on the ice. Classes may be canceled due to inclement weather. Any make-ups will be offered indoors at the Morgan Park Sports Center later. Cost is $40 for the 3-week program.

  • Hockey Learn to Skate, offered by Mount Greenwood Hockey Club
    Saturdays, from 10 am – 11:30 am
    10-week program for ages 4 and older, starting Saturday, December 9th, 2023, and running through Saturday, February 10th, 2024. Skaters will be divided into 3 groups and will work on the basics of hockey skating, stick-handling, passing and shooting. Hockey helmets with cage, hockey skates, hockey sticks, shin guards or knee and elbow pads required. Full hockey equipment recommended. Cost is $60 + a $25 refundable jersey deposit, for the 10 week-program. Registration is through the Mount Greenwood Hockey Club and takes place Friday, November 10th from 6:30 pm - 9 pm in person at the Mt. Greenwood Park Fieldhouse, 3721 West 111th Street.   • Adult Learn to Skate, offered by Mount Greenwood Hockey Club
    Thursdays, from 7-8 pm
    10-week program for ages 18 and older, starting Thursday, December 14th, 2023, and running through Thursday, February 15th, 2024. The session provides an hour of instruction on the basics of balance, forward stride, starting, and stopping. Participants must have a hockey or bike helmet and hockey or figure skates. Skate rental is available at the ice rink. Cost is $60 for the 10-week program. Registration is through the Mount Greenwood Hockey Club and takes place Friday, November 10th from 6:30 pm - 9 pm in person at the Mt. Greenwood Park Fieldhouse, 3721 West 111th Street. Sled assisted skating allows people of all abilities to skate together. These specialty sleds for both children and adults are designed with a foot guard, ABS bucket seat, footrest and pusher handle. No usage charge.  Reservations required by calling (312) 442-2194.  Please call to reserve 24 hours prior to your visit to the rink.

 

Rules
  • Skate at your own risk.
  • Patrons are required to follow instructions of the Skate Assistants.
  • Skaters are not allowed on the ice when resurfacing is being completed.
  • Skating in a matter that endangers or interferes with the enjoyment experienced by other skaters is strictly prohibited.
  • No horseplay, game playing, excessive speed, roughness or skating in a dangerous or potentially dangerous fashion will be permitted.
  • No throwing snowballs or other objects at any time.
  • Hockey playing is not permitted during public skating sessions.
  • Only people wearing skates are allowed on ice skating rink surface.
  • No more than two people may skate together.
  • Skaters are prohibited from carrying children or secondary items (such as handbags, backpacks, cameras, cell phones, etc.) while on the ice.
  • Always skate with the flow directed by the Skate Assistants.
  • Skaters are to be continually moving and will not be allowed to stop for extended periods while on the ice.
  • No sitting on or leaning over the boards.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted on skating surface.
  • No alcohol allowed on the premises.
  • Pets are not allowed on the premises.

 

Additional Information
  • Ice Skates 
    • Skates are available in child’s size 8 through men’s size 12.  Half sizes are not available. 

    • Figure and hockey skates are available.

    • Figure skates run true to size, hockey skates run about 1 size bigger than your shoe size.
       

  • Check-In Time
    • Skaters can check in 30 minutes before the start of their scheduled session
       

  • Skate Trainers/Walkers
    • Skate trainers/walkers are available for children who are new to skating.  These devices are available on a first-come, first-served basis at all rinks, at no charge.  Please inquire when visiting a rink.
