Description
Lynn Takata worked closely with Rogers Park community members in the mid 1980s to produce Windform, a 100-foot-long abstract concrete sculpture. Neighborhood residents helped identify the site for the artwork, select its theme, form the steel, and lay the concrete material to create its structure.
The artwork’s form is meant to represent the movement of the water. The sculpture provides areas to sit and enjoy views of the lake. The form provides slopes for children to climb and play on. A ten-year-old child from the community won a contest to name the artwork Windform. Takata also created another free-form bench with help from community members in Warren Park, entitled Circle of Nature.
Over the years, Lynn Takata has continued creating participatory artworks in cast and fused glass, concrete, mosaic and ceramic for zoos, parks and schools. She recently created a mosaic as the Artist-in-Residence for Richmond Elementary School in Portland, Oregon.
