Description

Steelworkers Park Natural Area has 11.6 acres of native prairie habitat, located within Steelworkers Park in the South Chicago neighborhood.  The features of this natural area pay homage to the sites industrial, and natural legacy.  Native prairie plants grow nestled between the Calumet River, and towering concrete ore walls which date back to 1901 when the site was known as the South Steel Works, and belonged to the US Steel Corporation. The natural area in this park surrounds a community rock climbing wall built on the historic ore wall of the Steelworks industry.

Help keep wildlife wild, safe, and healthy by following posted signage and Natural Areas Rules and Regulations.
